Small acts, big impact: supporting Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre

The power of small acts

At the heart of every thriving community is a network of support and kindness, where even the smallest acts can collectively create monumental changes.

The Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre is a shining example of how community spirit and volunteerism can make a significant difference.

At the beginning of a new year, many of us set resolutions to better ourselves and the world around us. While some may focus on personal goals, others may look to make a difference in their community. One positive way to channel your new year’s resolution into a force for good is by supporting a local charity such as the Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre.

Turning your new year's resolutions into a dedicated cause can be a fulfilling way to contribute to the community, where small acts of kindness can collectively make a significant impact.
Many hands make light work!
It's often said that ‘many hands make light work’, yet we tend to underestimate the influence of small actions. Small actions, when multiplied by many people, can lead to substantial change. This is true in the realm of charity and volunteer work, especially for charities like Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre, where every little effort counts.

Our centre relies on a network of volunteers and supporters to provide vital services to the community, including transportation for those who are less mobile, social activities, and assistance for the elderly and vulnerable.

Small acts of kindness have a ripple effect, creating a wave of positive change that extends far beyond the initial gesture.

Whether it's donating a few hours of your time, offering a modest financial contribution, or simply spreading the word, when small acts are multiplied by a number of people who care, they become a powerful force for good.
Even if you’re not able to volunteer by more traditional means, there are numerous ways to support Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre and make an impactful difference.
Volunteer your time
A few hours of your time can have a lasting impact. Whether it's helping with administrative tasks, organising events, providing companionship to those in need or participating in community outreach, volunteering is a direct way to give back. Even if you can only spare an hour a week, your consistent presence can uplift others and strengthen the community.
Spread the word
At Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre we have been working to improve the strength and well-being of the community in and around the area since 1984, yet it always surprises us just how many people are unaware of the services and support that we offer.

Simply spreading the word about our centre would really make a difference, as awareness could lead to more volunteers and donations.

Equally, if you’re on social media, be sure to be following our pages, and if you can like and share our posts, even better!
Make a donation, no matter how small
Monetary contributions, regardless of the amount, are always appreciated. These funds help sustain our charity’s operations and the support we offer to the community. Every pound adds up, enabling the centre to continue its vital work.
Fundraising ideas for those less mobile
There are still plenty of ways that older individuals or those with limited mobility can help.

Our telephone Befriending service helps those who are feeling vulnerable or lonely, so whether you are in need of similar help, or feel that you could be a support for someone in the community, a weekly telephone conversation provides social interaction and support.
Writing letters or cards for those in isolation can brighten someone's day and foster a sense of connection. If you enjoy making cards, would you be willing to donate a few to our centre for others to purchase, or write and send a couple to people less fortunate in our community to cheer them up. If you prefer to knit or crochet, handmade items like scarves or blankets can be donated and sold, with proceeds going to the volunteer centre.
Our monthly craft group is a great way to join others and get creative together, and if you struggle to leave your house to attend social groups like these, our community transport is on hand to collect you from your home and take you back too!

For book lovers, a reading marathon or book club event could be a great way to raise money, and participants can seek sponsorship for every book they read. Alternatively, books in good condition or jigsaws (with no missing pieces of course!) could be donated in a ‘swap-shop’ scheme and bought to our fortnightly lunch club. For a small fee, people can take home a nearly new jigsaw or book to read, and the monies raised will help to support the good work that we do.
Baking lovers need not miss out either! How about making a classic fruit cake, a delicious Victoria Sandwich, Lemon Drizzle cake, everyone's favourite Carrot cake,or even scones to bring along to our fortnightly lunch club? With a suggested donation amount, they’re sure to sell well and will raise funds for the Volunteer Centre.
Recipes from a bygone era
Have you ever wanted to see your name in print? If so, wouldn’t it be great to compile a Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre cookbook featuring recipes from local residents?

How often have you said that you ‘never see a favourite childhood dessert for sale in the supermarkets’, or reminisce over a primary school pudding? Classic puddings from a bygone era might be having a recent revival, but who actually remembers how to make them?

From liver with bacon and onions, or beef stew and dumplings, to jam roly-poly and ‘rabbit shaped’ blancmange, a unique cookbook could feature personal anecdotes about each dish along with the recipe itself. The cookbook could then be sold at local markets and events, or online, and a tasting evening could help to promote sales as well.

Get a little fitter?
How hard would it be for you to give up a beloved treat such as chocolate, biscuits or your daily morning coffee for a month? Do you think you could do it and would your relatives be surprised if you did? If so, why not set yourself a challenge to do just that and seek sponsorship from family and friends to support you. Not only would you be testing your willpower, you’re sure to feel healthier and best of all, you’ll be raising money for Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre in the process!
If mobility isn’t too much of an issue, could you commit to walking a specific distance each day, perhaps a mile every day for a month? Sponsors could pledge a certain amount per mile completed, and it would be a great way to get physically healthier, whilst contributing to a very worthy cause. Better still, if your friends join in, more money gets raised along the way!
Businesses can help too!
All these ideas aren’t limited to individuals either! Local businesses or community groups could offer their support to ‘adopt’ a specific project or need within the charity.

Whether it’s a local pub or restaurant helping to fund the print costs of the cookbook, or a photographer willing to take photos of the dishes to be included, every little helps. Perhaps a local library would be willing to donate old books, or maybe a craft shop could offer a discount for the card making materials. This type of support forges community connections and ensures the sustainability and future of our centre.

Imagine if every business in Pershore and the surrounding areas could offer their support, no matter how big or little, our centre wouldn’t just survive – it would thrive!
Each small act, when combined with others, forms a ripple effect that can transform communities. By supporting the Pershore Plus Volunteer Centre, you’re not only helping a charity, but also enriching the lives of those around you.

So, this year, regardless of whether you’re an individual or a business, consider making a resolution that will leave a lasting impact, because together, we can make a big difference.
